The Grand Hotel Rimini was commissioned by the South American architect, Paolo Somazzi, by the Milan Hotel Society and was officially inaugurated on 1st July 1908. A fire destroyed the hotel in July 1920 and the two decorative roof domes were never fixed or repaired. The hotel was then damaged again during World War II, resulting in the building requiring serious restoration. Italian film director, Federico Fellini had loved the Grand Hotel as a child and went on to feature it in many of his films, giving it worldwide fame. The hotel is shown in the background of some of the most beautiful scenes in s film 'Amarcord'. Rooms in the hotel are decorated with French and Venetian décor from the XVIII century, with beautiful wood flooring, Venetian lamps and original furnishings. The hotel restaurant is elegantly decorated with art and objects from the past that reflect the history of the building. In 1994, the Grand Hotel Rimini was declared an important historical monument.
